AAVSO Special Notice #260

 Retraction of Special Notice 259
 October 19, 2011

 Further to Special Notice #259, D. Fox notes in ATel #3692 that the bright
 transient in the M31 region reported by Ovcharov et al (ATel #3691) is
 coincident with the current position of minor planet Palma, currently
 transiting M31 at a magnitude of V=11.3. The object noted in Special
 Notice #259 is therefore unlikely to be stellar in nature. Special Notice #259 is therefore retracted.

 This AAVSO Special Notice was prepared by M. Templeton.

Ведь ATel #: 3692 вышла всего через 20 минут после сообщения об "открытии" и уже больше часа как висела до создания этой темы.

The "possible supernova in M31" reported by Ovcharov et al. (ATel #3691) is coincident in position and magnitude with the known minor planet (372) Palma, as reported by the Minor Planet Checker service at the Minor Planet Center, Harvard CfA. The MPChecker service estimates V=11.3 mag at the time of the Ovcharov et al. observation. We therefore suggest that their report can most likely be interpreted as a reobservation of this minor planet.
