v4.2.3.0 14 September 2016 beta relerase******** Includes functionality for Gaia
The GAIA14 catalogue for Occult is now available for download – as download option 39 on the Occult Downloads form. The download is 512MB zipped file that creates a 806MB file. [You must have updated Occult to 4.2.3.0 to access this.] Once you have done this, you can:- view star positions in the Gaia14 catalogue, using the ‘View catalogue details for a range of stars’ on the Maintenance tab;- search for asteroidal and planetary occultations using Gaia14The characteristics of the Gaia14 catalogue are:Content – all stars with a Gaia G magnitude brighter than 14.0Number of stars - 17,607,408Number of stars that were not matched to UCAC4 300783 (=1.7%)Coverage – this first release of Gaia data is limited to stars where there are no issues with close doubles, and a range of other issues which might raise doubts about the validity of the solution. It is also limited to stars brighter than about mag 3; that is, the 243 brightest stars are not included. On the basis of the TychoGaia solution, it would seem likely that coverage is only ~61% of all stars.Magnitudes – I have used the broad-band G-magnitude available in Gaia for both the Blue and Red magnitudes.
